This year I am trying the BookRiot Read Harder Challenge to try to mix up my reading a bit.  Last year I didn’t do so well and this year holds finishing a dissertation, defending said dissertation, getting a job, moving, and starting said new job.  So it remains to be seen if this year will go very well, but I figure I might as well try.

Here’s the list:

  1. Horror Book
  2. Nonfiction Book About Science
  3. Collection of Essays
  4. Read a book out loud to someone else.
  5. Middle Grade Novel
  6. Biography (Not memoir or autobiography)
  7. Dystopian or Post-apocalyptic Novel
  8. Book originally published the decade I was born
  9. Listen to audio book that’s won an Audie Award
  10. Book over 500 pages long
  11. Book under 100 pages
  12. Book by or about a person that identifies as transgender
  13. Book that is set in the Middle East
  14. Book that is by an author from Southeast Asia
  15. Book of historical fiction set before 1900
  16. First book in a series by a person of color
  17. Non-superhero comic that debuted in the last three years
  18. Book that was adapted into a movie, then watch the move and debate which is better
  19. Non-fiction book about feminism or dealing with feminist themes
  20. Book about religion (fiction or nonfiction)
  21. Book about politics in my country or another (fiction or nonfiction)
  22. Food Memoir
  23. Play
  24. Book with a main character that has a mental illness

Some of these I have ideas for, others I don’t know that I could name a single book that would fall into the category.  Last year I tried to avoid counting a single book for more than one category.  As much as I would like to avoid that this year as well I think that if I have any chance of success I might have to double dip if I can so that rule is out for this year.
